ENERGY SAVING DESIGN AND SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES:
1. Green Roof will prevent water run off and soil erosion. Water can be also collected and used for irrigation. Green roofs reduce the heat gain of the building and maintain cooler temperatures inside.
2. The roof has an intentional pitch to place solar panels facing south-east which will help to offset the consumption of electricity from the grid and potentially set the building to be a net zero.
3. All windows are operable to encourage the natural ventilation thus intentionally there is no AC.
4. To prevent unnecessary overheating, there is no windows on the south-east side and the building is finished with the reflective white paint. Additionally, canopies at each window will provide extra shade.
5. Permeable surfaces are installed in the courtyard to prevent soil erosion and overheating of the pavement. The patio floor is made of perforated metal that will aid to preserve the natural habitat of native plants below.
6. The indoor and outdoor areas are easily merged with the aid of accordion folding doors across some openings.
